I watched my fifth State of the Union speech last night - the third one by President Bush. Mr. Bush’s speech could have been completed in 2 seconds. He could have walked up to the podium and told the one sided congress - Distinguished guests.. blah blah.. “The State of the Union is grim. Thank you, please stay tuned for American Idol on Fox.” There was nothing new that resonated with me in the address - they were more accusations to the Democratic led congress of how their actions, or the lack of, was curbing the performance of Mr. Bush and his cabinet. The big topics were glazed upon - Terrorism, Iraq, Immigration and the Economy - but none of it was mustard. On the whole, I thought the speech was poor and the fact that even his own Republican Party members have distanced from the President speaks volumes of his popularity within the United States. The US Congress looked more divided than the American people - it is time to stop partisan politics and venture into a relationship that puts the focus back on the American people. One aspect struck the cord real hard with President Bush where he definitely earned points when he spoke about immigration and how illegal aliens in the United States must be treated - with dignity upholding the highest ideals of humanity. He certainly spoke of the American way in this regard. However, he lost me when he spoke about Tax cuts and the cutting of funding from several Federal Programs which he said were to have been bloated. on the whole, I would give the address a solid 4/10 (10 being the greatest) It would be interesting to see what the Republican Party and its Presidential Candidates will take away from the address of the President of the United States. As of now, with Mr. Bush’s rating being grim, I would reckon the election of a Republican to the White House is quite the same.
