A country that can win the Asian Cup in soccer obviously has some fit, capable men. However, many of those joining the army are simply desperate for food, while most of the truly dedicated armed men in Iraq are loyal to their sect or creed first. That is changing somewhat with the bringing into the fold of the Anbar Salvation Council, but the concern now is how to integrate the Sunni Arab, Shia Arab, and Kurdish armed factions into the Iraqi Army. If that proves impossible, Iraq may see itself partitioned into 3+ states. As to whether the U.S. should stay in Iraq, U.N. leadership would (IMO) prove more effective at achieving national reconciliation.
